“Hi Barbie!”

Have you seen the Barbie movie yet? We did and wow, there is a lot to say about it. Dr. Katie joins us to discuss all things “Barbie” Movie. The patriarchy, how we viewed Barbie as young girls, and the emotions we felt seeing our lives as women on the big screen. We all shed tears, laughed out loud and we are all changed women for seeing this movie.

We would love to know what you thought? You know the drill, leave a voicemail here, send a DM @unqualifiedtherapists or an email unqualifiedtherapists@gmail.com  For real…tell us.

We missed you SO MUCH! Thank you for giving us grace for our unplanned time off. It was necessary, but we are thrilled to be back.

xo,

Amy & Sarah

We will leave you with the quote of the year, the decade, and the century by America Ferrera:

“It is literally impossible to be a woman. You are so beautiful and so smart, and it kills me that you think you’re not good enough. Like we always have to be extraordinary, but somehow we’re always doing it wrong.

We have to be thin, but not too thin. And you can never say you want to be thin. You have to say you want to be healthy, but also you have to be thin. You have to have money, but you can’t ask for money, because that’s crass. You have to be a boss, but you can’t be mean. You have to lead, but you can’t squash other people’s ideas.

You’re supposed to love being a mother, but don’t talk about your kids all the damn time. You have to be a career woman, but also always be looking out for other people. You have to answer for men’s bad behavior, which is insane, but if you point that out, you’re accused of complaining.

You’re supposed to stay pretty for men, but not so pretty that you tempt them too much or that you threaten other women because you’re supposed to be a part of the sisterhood. But always stand out and always be grateful.

You have to never get old, never be rude, never show off, never be selfish, never fall down, never fail, never show fear, never get out of line. It’s too hard! It’s too contradictory and nobody gives you a medal or says thank you! And it turns out in fact that not only are you doing everything wrong, but also everything is your fault.

I’m just so tired of watching myself and every single other woman tie herself into knots so that people will like us. And if all of that is also true for a doll just representing women, then I don’t even know.”

Psychologist

Katie Stewart, Psy.D., is a licensed psychologist and the owner of Stewart Psychological Services in Pittsburgh’s North Hills. After working in various settings for a decade, Dr. Stewart founded Stewart Psych as a way to offer psychological services in a setting that invites a sense of a calm and ease . Her work in individual psychotherapy initiates from a client centered stance and infuses principles and techniques from psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, and eastern theories and philosophies. Human beings need to be seen, to be heard, to have a sense of connection, and to have a sense of belonging. It is her deepest privilege to be able to provide a therapeutic space where those needs can be met. She also enjoys being the "resident psychologist" on PCNC's Night Talk and Pittsburgh Now television shows.

Prior to opening her own practice, Dr. Stewart was on the faculty of the Department of Psychiatry at Allegheny Health Network, where she provided individual psychotherapy and assessment services, as well as supervision and training of Psychology Interns, Postdoctoral Fellows in Psychology, and Psychiatry Residents. As part of the training component of her work there, Dr. Stewart was also the primary coordinator of a clinic for Psychiatry Residents that enabled the trainees to see patients with a wider range of presenting concerns and backgrounds while also giving patients greater access to treatment. In 2016, she was honored to be named Teacher of the Year by the Department’s trainees. Dr. Stewart previously served as an Assistant Professo… Read More
